My wife had her water spilled away by the same security person who allowed mine to go through. Walked through security, will large bottle of water,no problem. Old chap, shouts over to us, Yo, you have to take your backpacks to bag security, located at the top of the hill. Walked through the bags area and made our way to security. We had backpacks because we had been out all day. Large crowds moving in either direction, well before the security checks. We managed to get to the tennis for about an 18:15. We had to go away and find somewhere else to eat, well away from the stadium. We were told that we are not allowed in until 18:00. We arrived at the stadium approximately at 16:30 to get into the grounds to eat, drink and check out the stalls etc. We booked for the night session, starting 19:00. So an overall enjoyable experience but one that could be great with few tweaks. I do understand the drive for equality particularly at the US Open but surely the #1 seed Alcaraz ought to be the last match on? Most fans want to see the top match of the day being played in the evening and generally this will be the highest seeded mens’ match. Matches starting way too late and we got home at 3am in the morning. The Scheduling has come in for lots of criticism and I have to agree. The cost of drinks is quite scary, $8.50 for Evian water or a Lemonade and over $20 for a basic cocktail. I think the Americans believe people with backpacks are potentially going to cause harm? Not sure though as when I asked security they said it was just a rule and they didn’t know why either. This delayed our entry to the stadium along with the fact that backpacks are not allowed, even though you are not told this prior to the event. Checking in the USA actually means leaving your back in a locker “checking in”. Checking your bag means two very different things in the UK and USA. We were told you had to pay to check your bag. So, if you want a decent experience then hopefully you can afford tickets in the lower levels. I did point out that they interfered with spectators who have paid good money to watch the tennis but that fell on deaf ears. Security was non existent in this area and when we asked why we were told that spectators didn’t interfere with players at that level so it didn’t matter. This was incredibly distracting and hugely detracted from the tennis being played. The biggest one is allowing fans to move around freely during points in the upper seating area in Arthur Ashe. The venue is amazing and most definitely worth a visit but there were quite a few areas where we thought improvements could be made. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary in NYC as we are avid tennis fans who had the US Open on our bucket list. Having visited many tennis tournaments around the world I was looking forward to this one big time. One should be prepared to park in a lot or on a nearby street it is also possible to take a subway. The park is also nice to walk around, because one can see quite a few destinations (like the Unisphere and the fountains) other than Arthur Ashe Stadium. Thus, people should give themselves quite a bit of time to arrive before the game. The security line during the pandemic to enter was very long and inefficient, and in my opinion, it was very poorly run. There are good views in the stadium even from higher up. These tennis professionals really have a lot of endurance! I always buy T-shirts, and I sometimes buy foods and drinks despite the prices being steep, in my belief. I love the chance to watch tennis champions play aggressive and competitive games. I have always met fans from all over the place, and this is definitely a dream event for someone who either plays tennis or for anyone who is heavily interested in it. The admission prices vary based on when the game is scheduled. Open tournaments from 2006 to the present.
